Give Thanks: Mind, Body, and Soul
26 November, 2025Thanksgiving encourages us to pause and appreciate what we have, but it also marks the beginning of a season filled with spending, consuming, and holiday chaos. For some, the holidays are the brightest part of the year; for others, they can bring loneliness, stress, or emotional strain.
No matter where you are this season, take time to appreciate yourself and the people around you. At Raintree Athletic Club, we encourage you to slow down and give thanks for the little things: mind, body, and soul.
MIND: Protect Your Mental Health This Season
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is real. According to research from the Mayo Clinic, SAD can cause low energy, mood changes, and even depression.
Even though we’re lucky to get plenty of Colorado sunshine, colder seasons can still keep us indoors. Remember that simply getting outside, even briefly, can be therapeutic. A short walk with a friend or loved one can shift your mood and support your mental well-being.
At the same time, be mindful not to overwork yourself during the holiday rush. Deadlines, school schedules, and travel plans can heighten stress. Get things done, but don’t sacrifice your peace of mind. The holidays are meant to bring warmth and brightness to these darker, shorter days.
Additional Mental Wellness Tips:
– Set boundaries. It’s okay to decline commitments that stretch you too thin.
– Practice mindfulness. Try deep breathing, yoga, or meditation to recenter.
– Stay social (in healthy ways). Reach out to supportive friends and family.
If you want structured stress-relief, consider integrating yoga or group exercise into your winter routine.

BODY: Stay Committed to Your Health and Fitness Goals
Holiday classics, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, holiday cookies, and everything in between, can easily disrupt your fitness or wellness routine. If you’re traveling or stepping away from your home gym, staying accountable may feel more challenging.
Holiday Fitness Tips to Stay on Track:
– Schedule your workouts. Put movement into your calendar like any other commitment.
– Keep workouts short but consistent. Even 15–20 minutes can boost energy and metabolism.
– Try new classes. Mix up your routine with strength training, cycling, yoga, or recovery sessions.
– Hydrate well. Proper hydration helps regulate appetite and energy levels.
– Balance your plate. Enjoy holiday favorites, but pair them with veggies, lean proteins, and whole foods.
If you’re remaining in Fort Collins for the season, Raintree offers everything you need, from cardio and strength equipment to group classes and personal training.
Remember: holiday treats aren’t the enemy. Focus on moderation, mindful choices, and movement that makes you feel good.

SOUL: Honor Tradition and Nourish Your Inner World
December is a spiritual month for many and a time of family connection for most. Whether you observe Christmas, Hanukkah, the winter solstice, or simply enjoy being with loved ones, let this season be an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most.
Soul-Nourishing Tips:
– Practice gratitude daily. Write down three small things you’re grateful for.
– Reconnect with traditions. Honor your roots, whatever they may be.
– Slow down. Give yourself permission to rest and enjoy meaningful moments.
Respect your own traditions, honor others’, and try not to get swept away by the holiday frenzy. Your soul deserves as much attention as your mind and body.
