February: Heart Health Month

6 March, 2020

Did you know that over 1 million American lives are taken annually due to heart disease? This makes it the number one killer of both men and women in this country.

Heart Disease is known as a “silent killer,” often showing little or no symptoms. The only way to check for issues that may be affecting your body is to get regular checkups including management of healthy weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar.

Although heart health can be managed through regular exercise, stress management, and a healthy diet, it can often sneak up when you least expect it.

For many, routine checkups at the doctor’s office will cover these basic heart health tests. Most doctors will recommend that testing begins in those 18 and older.

If you’ve fallen behind and are a resident in The Health District of Northern Larimer County, you are eligible for a free checkup:.

Here’s where you can find free cholesterol & blood pressure testing in Fort Collins:

  • Saturday, February 25, 2017 – 8:15am to 10:30am at the Senior Center (1200 Raintree)
  • Tuesday, February 28, 2017 – 8:15am to 10:30am at Fort Collins Club (1307 E. Prospect)

Cholesterol tests are free in February for residents of the Health District (Fort Collins, Timnath, LaPorte, Wellington, Livermore, Bellvue, Red Feather Lakes and some parts of west Windsor). All others pay $15. Appointment strongly recommended. Call 970-224-5209.

Raintree Athletic Club also partners with the Health District of Larimer County on several occasions throughout the year, offering the same services within the club on designated days.

Fitness is not the only aspect of your health. This February and all year long, take care of all of your muscles — including that big one located in your chest.
